Mice (Mus domesticus)

The house mouse is a very common pest in buildings. Mice are excellent climbers and can gain access through holes as small as 10mm in diameter, so almost all premises are at constant risk of infestation. If you see mice during the day, it may indicate that a large infestation is present.

Mice continually dribble urine, which contain pheromones that allow other mice to follow. They build their nests indoors, under floors, behind partitions and in cavities where their presence may not be obvious.

Mice are a constant threat to the reputation of food premises. They contaminate food products with their droppings and by gnawing. They walk across kitchen surfaces leaving behind bacteria that need to be cleaned with disinfectant.

Mice can live for around 12 months, reaching sexual maturity at 6 weeks. Females can have up to 10 litters per year, each litter containing between 4 and 16 young. Under ideal conditions one pregnant female mouse may be responsible for as many as 2,000 young mice in ONE year!

Treatment for Mice

An initial inspection and risk assessment is carried out, then anticoagulant rodenticide is laid in lockable bait boxes to the affected areas. We then carry out a follow-up treatment to ensure the problem is eradicated. If further treatment is required this is carried out free of charge. We can advise clients of any mouse-proofing that could be done to reduce further infestations. We can also carry out this work if required at a small extra cost.
